I saw The Wombats at Hordern Pavilion with my brother, Sam, on Sunday! They’re my favourite band at the moment, and as they were playing their only Australian sideshow in a week that I’d be at Sydney I just had to go.
They were incredible! It was such a fun, energetic show with perfect sound and awesome lights. As you can see, we weren’t particularly close to the stage, but I liked that because we could still see and we were more comfortable. Sam liked our location in particular because we were next to the sound guys, so he could watch what was going on there.
There were two awesome surprises of the night: the opening band were the Last Dinosaurs (whom I like a lot!) and, as a tribute to Lemmy from Motorhead, The Wombats did a metal song (I’m assuming it was a Motorhead one?) so well! Unfortunately, I didn’t get a video of that – I’m hoping Sam will have one. Interestingly, they didn’t play any songs from their Glitterbug B-Sides EP, but I guess that’s cause they’re new and wouldn’t be so popular yet.
All in all, The Wombats put on a wonderful live show, and I’m so happy that I went. I’ve now seen The Wombats, Vampire Weekend and Phoenix in concert at Horden Pavilion, and they were all so great, but The Wombats were my favourite yet. If they tour Sydney/Melbourne again, I’ll definitely be seeing them another time!
(Can you hear me singing in some of the videos? :P)
